THE BENEFITS OF MASSAGE THERAPY
As athletes we use our muscles (soft tissue) and joints for every action we perform. So it makes sense that massage therapy can help alleviate soreness, help lengthen muscles for optimal performance and increase flexibility. I see many athletes on a regular basis who all appreciate the benefits massage has offered them. It can allow you to stay injury free, help repair and heal damaged or injured tissue faster and overall keep the body moving freely and efficiently to give you optimum performance. You don’t buy an expensive car to never do repairs or change the oil so why value your body any less. Your body is a priceless item that can not be repaired so easily and to invest all your time and effort into training only to have it break down is a waste of time.
During your training it is beneficial to have a massage therapy session for an accurate assessment. You may feel great now, but your body may be building soreness that you haven’t yet experienced. Massage therapy is about working out that soreness before it effects you. Most people are strong enough that their body can continue to work through many little aches and pains. What we don’t realize is that those aches and pains change the way we move and ultimately start affecting other parts of our bodies and then compensation starts. Usually when we feel pain our bodies have run out of options for compensation and if we haven’t alleviated the problem it will come back as pain and only get worse. So instead of waiting for the pain to begin or to get worse make an appointment with your massage therapist and get the kinks worked out.
be strong. live long. feel great.
